I’m fucked up and officially in grief so this isn’t going to be the most coherent entry.

I usually prefer Virtualbox for a fuck-ton of practical reasons (easier to back up machines, can be run and restored on BSD and MacOS as well as Linux/Windows) but VB’s 3D acceleration sucks ass for anything remotely game-y.

I can’t focus for shit right now, but the pieces are in place so that when I am able to, I can make a client VM and a server VM and this will allow me to have my own reusable virtual world on any OS that supports VMWare. (probably mostly useful for future versions of Windows).

Backup and restore on VMware player is a bitch, though. Basically your only option is to zip the VM folder and unzip it when you want to restore it. Fuckin flint knives and bear skins.
